Wuthering Heights

This book is a drama. The passion that pulsates throughout this whole novel is quite intense. I read it for English class this year. It tells the story of a man who rents a house called Thrushcross Grange. The owner of this house is Mr. Heathcliff, who lives at Wuthering Heights. After he first meets Heathcliff, Mr. Lockwood becomes obsessed with their family and their twisted history. The rest of the book tells the passion filled story of what happened between them. Honestly, this book was very sad. It is so filled with unnecessary tragedy after tragedy. Not to spoil anything, this book does have a happy ending. It made all the anguish seem worth it. One of the most interesting themes I enjoyed focusing on throughout reading are the ideas of repression and sublimation. Specifically, the repression and sublimation of nature. Brontë evokes the power of nature, without ever directly describing it. Focus on this while you are reading!
